I cast my vote for Jim Pendergraph today at the main library uptown, picked up my "I voted early" sticker, and so should you. Actually, you don't have to go the main library like I did -- a lot of locations opened up today for early voting. If you aren't sure what your schedule is going to look like on election day, plan a few minutes and head over to the early voting place THIS WEEK and take care of it on your schedule.
There were no lines at all in the uptown library at around 2pm, and I counted 3 people in there voting (including myself), one leaving as I entered, and one arriving as I left. The effort took me 5 minutes of walking, a few minutes to verify my identity verbally and get my voting form printed out (and yes, I handed them my NC Drivers License like Pat McCrory asked everyone to do in support of Voter ID laws), and about 5 minutes to actually cast my vote on my 4-page ballot. If the citizens of District 9 are like me, they want representation that reflects, to the best of its ability, our views on the role of government, the principles of public service, good governance and common sense, and a very healthy respect for the dignity, rights, and capabilities of the individual.
My ideal representative must be well-versed on the limitations directed toward the federal government as set forth under the United States Constitution. Further, s/he must demonstrate a deep commitment to steadfastly protect and defend those limitations as written while at the same time advocating for the district. By all appearances of failure and success, this is a delicate balance that is difficult to achieve. But I know it can be done with the right leadership.Read More
